Where've I been?

Not far, I'm sure! Though not much has been happening over here as well. A prominent, and I dare say, vital member of our local group is moving away. We've become very small over the years; losing one here, and others there and otherwere. So it is to say, the fate of a group of friends in a very small town. We can certainly adapt and manage to play games with smaller numbers of PCs, but it's just not the same as it used to be, no?

But not all is to be glum as some slum. After all, we've been celebrating and enjoying our last weeks in good cheer. Saint Patrick's Day was as good as any, and I met the acquaintance of a new friend (for celebratory purposes only). I've never been one for drinking alcohol, and I certainly mean it. But there was something that was just right about cracking open a bottle of aged single-malt scotch under a country's night sky with friends. Another bottle will be my goings-away gift, methinks.

  1. I know the feeling. When my rpg group of twenty years splintered it was a real tug at the gut. We carried on, but you miss the familiar phrases, the corny jokes and one-liners, but moreover, you miss the person and their character.

My group is now no more. I've tried with fresh players, but it is never the same. I think we just have to accept the fact that getting older, growing apart, developing lives outside of our gaming circle and leaving the dice nestled in their box never to see the light of day is a fate that awaits us all, sooner or later.

    1. Quite possibly that is what I'll be seeing in the years to come. But after all, that's what children are for! How else does our genus keep living if not to irrevocably screw our spawn with our lifestyles? XD

Until then, there's still two more good fellows that'll go on adventures with me.

  2. Joshua,

If all else fails, we 'old timers' in the blogosphere could rally together and hobble something rpg-like to tide us over those cold, wet wind-swept nights of rpg lonliness.

Do I sound like a sad old git? lol!

But seriously - it's a thought worthy of consideration. We've all the right people around us who share the same passion, no travel excuses to contend with, no bouts of horrendous flatulence to assault one's senses, definitely no making of teas, coffees or supplying munchies, and no tedious clearing up after the session is done.

    What say you, my brother-in-arms?

    1. Haha! Ya' mean like those play-by-(email/blog/post) games some people run? That sort of thing? I'd definitely be up for the sort, regardless of system or genre.

Any such thing would be an excellent project to undertake.

  3. I shall get my thinking cap on and see what happens? Only ever ran a snail-mail pbm, not sure how an online one would work, especially via blog? But shit, life is meant to be a challenge, so what the hey!

    1. I'm not too familiar with how exactly play-by-blog would go down, but have heard people talking of it. A couple of the blogs I follow were doing this. (Though they seem idle/dead now.)

Ancient Astronauts (http://ancientastronautspbp.blogspot.ca/) and Spaceswords & Glory (http://spaceswordsandglory.blogspot.ca/) are at least two that I can recall.
